Wednesday, July 15, 6:30pm, Little Theatre YOO-HOO, MRS. GOLDBERG Director: Aviva Kempner, US, 2009, 90 min., English Before The Cosby Show, The Jeffersons, Good Times, or even I Love Lucy, there was The Goldbergs. From 1929 until 1955 The Goldbergs was one of the most popular shows on radio and television. At its center was Gertrude Berg, who wrote it, supervised it, and starred as Molly Goldberg. Each week Molly would come into our homes nurturing her family and dispensing advice with exasperation, love and wisdom. From the award-winning producer and director of The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg comes a new documentary on one of America's favorite radio and television personalities and its creator, an American Jewish icon who emerged during the most difficult years for American Jews. The Ciesla Foundation, under the direction of filmmaker Aviva Kempner, proudly presents this work as a continuation of its mission to produce films about lesser-known Jewish heroes. Generously underwritten by First Niagara. Back to film festival schedule » |
