Thirteen year old Aharon Ninio, the only child of parents who are unable to conceive again, is chosen with the honor of carrying the Torah around the neighborhood in a symbolic traditional ritual for the holiday Simhat Torah.

He finds his status in the community suddenly elevated due to the belief that he who carries the Torah may ask God for anything on behalf of others. He hopes to win both his peers and his distant father’s approval once and for all. But after Aharon wins the honor, his achievement brings burdens and ancient tensions to the surface, which lead to unexpected results in this touching - and at times humorous and complex - portrait of an Israeli family.
