Crime After Crime

Justice, justice shall you pursue … (Deuteronomy 16:18-20)

CRIME AFTER CRIME details the legal battle to free Debbie Peagler, an incarcerated victim of domestic violence. More than 26 years in prison could not crush the spirit of this determined African-American woman, despite the wrongs she suffered.  She finds her only hope for freedom when two rookie attorneys with no background in criminal law step forward to take her case. Attorney Joshua Safran, an Orthodox Jew, draws inspiration from religious tradition, while his partner, an ultra-marathon runner named Nadia Costa, brings enduring stamina. Funded in part by the Sundance Documentary Institute, CRIME AFTER CRIME raises a banner on behalf of battered women in prison and celebrates Jewish values of social justice.
