Tuesday, July 14, 6:30pm, Little Theatre VOICES FROM EL-SAYED Director: Oded Adomi Leshem, Israel, 2008, 75 min., Arabic/Hebrew/Sign Language with subtitles The largest per capita percentage of deaf people in the world is in the Bedouin Village of El-Sayed in the picturesque Israeli Negev desert. No hearing aids can be seen because in El-Sayed deafness is not viewed as a handicap. The tranquility of the village is interrupted by one father's decision to pursue a Cochlear Implant Operation for his young son. His decision evokes debate in the village, threatening the tradition of coexistence between the deaf and the hearing.
